An Ottawa landmark since 1908 and one of the most prestigious private golf courses in the National Capital Regional, the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club is a wonderful place to share good times with friends and family, to meet new people, or just to relax and unwind.
Our Club offers three types of membership — golf, curling and social — and welcomes applications in all three categories. Once confirmed, new members have immediate access to all Club facilities. In the golf category, however, access to tee-times may be initially restricted should there be a waiting list in your golf classification.
Why should you join the Hunt Club? At least 10 good reasons come to mind.
The Hunt Club has a reputation throughout Canada as a premier golf course. Each of our 27 holes and 225 acres is home to undulating terrain, tall pines and majestic spruce trees.
In 1924, Willie Park's "traditional-style" golf course was officially opened for play. The result of his work is the basis for what Hunt Club golfers enjoy today – a beautiful and subtle test of golf. Over the years, the Club has hosted many prestigious events, from the Canadian Open in 1932 to the Americas Cup in 1960 to the LPGA events of 1994 and 2008. Lorena Ochoa praised the course as her favourite on the 2008 LPGA tour.
Having three nine-hole courses means we can offer six different 18-hole layouts. That’s a lot of golf courses for one membership!
The Hunt Club is the perfect place to enjoy time with your family. With 27 holes and a wide range of Ladies’, Men’s, Mixed, and Junior golf programs available, there is easy access to the course for the entire family. And having an “extra” nine holes means you can find a place to play at your own pace, a nice feeling for those learning the game or playing with their young children.
There are also many family-oriented events at the Club, as well as numerous dining choices suitable for the entire family.
Our Clubhouse was completely renovated in 2007, to the enjoyment and delight of members and guests alike. There are both formal and informal dining areas where you can enjoy a quick bite or a leisurely meal, spacious banquet and meeting facilities to meet your personal and business needs, and modern, well-equipped locker room facilities. In the summer months, our balconies and terraces, overlooking the course and gardens, are a perfect place to dine or enjoy a drink.
As they say in real estate, location is everything. And that’s certainly true about our location. The Hunt Club is ideally situated in the city – just 20 minutes from the downtown core and less than 30 minutes from the far reaches of the National Capital Region.
Pressed for time? Worried that you won’t get your money’s worth at a private club? Put that worry aside. The Hunt Club is perfect for you. Not only are we located within the city and a quick drive from downtown, but with 27 holes, you will never have to wait long to get on the course. And the way the course is designed, it is easy to come out early in the morning or later in the evening and play three, four or five holes.
Want to improve your game? Try our excellent practice facilities. Just beside our West course, members can hit off real grass, not mats, for most of the year at our full-length driving range. By the South course, there are chipping and putting greens that are just as smooth and fast as the greens on the golf course, and over by the North course you will find a pitching and sand practice area. With all these practice facilities, you will soon be competing in one of our friendly Club events.
And if you need some advice on how to improve your game, one of our golf professionals is always nearby to offer a friendly tip. Need more than a tip? Our professionals offer a variety of clinics and lessons throughout the season.
Joining a prestigious private golf club is sometimes beyond the means of golfers between the ages of 19-40. The Hunt Club offers golfers in this age group the opportunity to join through reduced annual dues and attractive terms regarding our initiation fee.
As wonderful as golf is, we can’t play through the winter in Ottawa. That’s when members take to our six sheets of curling ice. The Hunt Club
is well-known and highly regarded for our excellent social and competitive curling programs. So whether it’s Mixed, Ladies’ or Men’s curling, you can enjoy the exercise and social aspects of this great sport.
You won’t always need golfing or curling shoes to enjoy yourself at the Hunt Club. It’s an excellent place to share good times with friends and family, to meet new people, or just to relax and unwind. We have social events throughout the year, from dinners to dances to concerts on the patio in the summer. It’s never a question of what’s going on at the Hunt Club but rather how to fit everything into your schedule.
The Hunt Club, led by Course Superintendent Eric Ruhs, has achieved designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary," clearly demonstrating our concern for the environment.
According to the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, the Club …“has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property." We are all extremely proud of this achievement.
